Hello!
|
Inspiration poster for my Etsy "About Me" section that I made a couple months ago. |
I wrote my
own version of an origin story a couple of days ago, but I really wanted to share this interview that Breanne, from
Good Witch of the Midwest gave me, so here it is!
"Good Witch: What are your favorite sources for inspiration?
KC/Super Nails: My
favorite sources for inspiration are from Comic Books and Movie &
Cartoon Characters! I am torn between DC or Marvel, I can't seem to
choose one over the other. They both have characters that I love. I even
named my business after superheroes! :)
Other places that I pull
ideas from would be my favorite Foods (bacon & eggs, brownies,
M&Ms… and I am working more for the near future!) I also enjoy matching
my nails to the holidays that are coming up, so naturally I have
Holiday themed polish whenever possible, including Birthstone colors.
"Good Witch: Where does your creativity stem from to allow you to come up with an array of colors and possibilities?
KC/Super Nails: I
was always artistic in school, and took a couple art classes in college
before majoring in business, so I would say that my creativity has
always been with me. I like to play around with theme colors from comic
book characters, so that is just a matter of matching up the right tone
and texture of glitter to their suits and costumes.
I have an entire
collection of bottles of colors that I put together that I am nervous
about releasing because they are off the wall… I am not even sure what I
could name them yet. I like to also look at what colors are on the
forecast for the season in fashion magazines to give me an idea of what
others might be looking for.
"Good Witch: What do you love about making polish?
KC/Super Nails: Other
than the creative part of designing the polish, I love the meditative
properties of it! All of my bottles are made-to-order, so I put good
thoughts into the making of each one. It isn't a mass produced product
when you buy from me, and not even made in batches and poured all at
once. I feel like measuring out the amount of all of the glitters I put
into each bottle is calming and it keeps me from getting bored since I
get to play with so many different colors each day, depending on what
was sold.
Another part I love about being a nail polish maker is
getting to meet so many nice people in the online nail community. I
never knew there was such a large group of ladies in this world that
love nail polish so much! Having conversations with customers and
bloggers is such a great experience for me, and it has helped me grow so
much!
"Good Witch: What made you start making polish?
KC/Super Nails: I
am still developing my origin story, but one reason I can think of
right now is because when I discovered indie polishes, I fell in love!
After awhile, I wanted nail polish to match my nerdy shirts, such as my
Batman t-shirts and other geekery I get from shops from Etsy,
Threadless, and Redbubble. That is really what started all of this
craziness. After I got started, I found out that other people also love
my polishes! When I realized people loved my polish designs had to be
one of the most confidence building event for me ever! You're all so
wonderful!!
"Good Witch: Do you have anything awesome in the works for your customers?
KC/Super Nails: I
am continuing to design more DC and Marvel superheroes and villains. I
am also working on a collection including Disney characters and
villains! I want to eventually expand into some of my favorite movie and
television show characters. I am also working on other secret
collections, and I list new polishes almost every week, so the best way
to keep up with my new polishes would either be by checking the shop
often or
following Super Nails Lacquer on Facebook."
There it is! I was so happy with the results, that I just had to put it onto my own blog, too. Be sure to check out and follow Breanne's blog:
